I haven't checked in here in days. I was on vacation, then a business trip, yadda yadda. This is what came to me on the plane coming home last night, before landing:

Black night above clouds
Distant lightning
City-stars below.
Conscious, unconscious, reversed.
My life.

Current Music: classical music on shuffle on my mp3 player
I've been busy. I feel like I've been running around crazy for a while now, hence my great pleasure at taking a week off next week. Work has had me stressed, life has had me stressed, you get the idea. But tomorrow is my tenth wedding anniversary (huh? how'd that happen? where did the time go?) and we're taking a couple days next week and just going to a hotel and hanging out, maybe go to a museum or two. Then I'm off to North Carolina for a few days to hang out with a friend and do crafty things. It won't get done any of the things around the house that I keep thinking need to get done (like cleaning and rearranging the altar in the bedroom) but if I can have a few days where I don't have to think of four things at once, that will be nice.

And if you are interested in the kind of over-the-top metaphysical thought processes that have accompanied the general insanity, check my web site for my latest essay on Being and Doing. For the record, I highly recommend The Apophenion by Peter J. Carroll. It's great if you are willing to let your mind go all expansive. Magic + physics.

Mar. 12th, 2009 @ 09:45 am Kindle question
Question for you folks who own Kindles, especially the second version. Apparently the first version generated some complaints from users because page numbering was confusing. Has that been fixed with the second one? A friend of mine is thinking about getting one of these and she is curious about this. Anybody know what improvements were made?

Thanks muchly!

To those folks on my flist who are going to Pantheacon this weekend -- I don't know what Ivo Dominguez Jr. is teaching, but I'm thinking of signing up for a class with him in May. It's on dragons and other subtle creatures. I know one person who went to a short version of the class and liked it. Anyway, if any of you take whatever class(es) he is doing, I'd love a review. Thanks all!

Feb. 13th, 2009 @ 12:16 pm Spiritual Prairie-dogging
Current Mood: thoughtfulthoughtful
For those of you who aren't familiar with the term, "prairie-dogging" is what happens when a noise or something interesting happens in a cube-farm and everyone pops their heads up or out to see what is going on. This morning I decided I was experiencing a spiritual equivalent of that. In the midst of all the mundane day-to-day stuff (that happens at the cube-farm level), in this case getting ready for work, I got to do something magical. Specifically, someone I was sponsoring in the Autonomatrix did his initiation ritual this morning. As sponsor, I have my part to play, on the level of some astral/energetic interaction. When done, I had to get back to getting ready for work, etc. I thought of it as if I were popping my head up to the higher things and then having to come back down to the mundane reality. But the joy of getting to stick my head up hangs around for a while, which is cool. The same thing occurs when I do a full moon or Sabbat or other such things. I know some of you spend more time with your heads up, fairly floating above the little cube world, and that is awesome. I don't do as much as I'd like and that is my own issue and something I'm trying to work on, but I came up with the prairie-dogging thing this morning and wanted to share.

Obama lifts gag rule on abortion funding
Dear President Obama,
Thank you. Thank you for lifting this horrible rule. Thank you for stepping up to the plate and doing your best to clean up the incredible mess left behind by your predecessor. Thank you for taking steps to deal with Guantanamo. Thank you for making the U.S. not look like such a bunch of nincompoops to the rest of the world. I know you've only been in office for a few days, but to see you do these kinds of things lifts hearts that have been heavy for a long time.
An American citizen who is no longer screaming in frustration every time the President opens his mouth.

I thought I was going to watch the inauguration on CNN on my desk at work, but they set up a laptop connected to a big screen in one of the conference rooms.

I think I just heard the entire country breathe this huge sigh of relief. No more Bush. And now, for this moment of hope, before all the wheels of government that haven't turned start screaming in protest as the WD-40 of consciousness gets applied, before people start complaining about whatever they are going to complain about, I'm just going to sit at my desk and smile :)

Jan. 8th, 2009 @ 05:59 pm Guten Abend!
Hello my multilingual LJers! Over the last few years, I have set myself goals for the year and this year one of them is to learn German. How much German remains to be seen, but I'd like to be able to do a little reading and be able to have some kind of conversational skill. This may turn out to be a large pain or fairly reasonable. It's hard to know, since the last time I tried learning a language was Spanish in high school (which is farther back in time than you'd think). Anyway, I know a couple of you speak German. If you're willing to throw an email or some conversation my way now and then, I'd appreciate it. If you've got any references you'd like to recommend, that would be great too. I bought Living Languages Basics for German, so I both have a book for reference and CDs for pronunciation. I also have some free software that is basically like flash cards. As might be obvious, any references that could provide Pagan or occult specific vocabulary would be of particular interest.

Danke und gute nacht!

Jan. 1st, 2009 @ 10:48 am Happy New Year
Current Mood: hopefulhopeful
Well, we survived 2008. I don't usually look at things that way, but it was that kind of year in too many ways.

Last night was a good way to ring in the new year. My husband and Fenix and I went to dinner at Longhorn and consumed large quantities of food and were back home by 7:00. Then the guys went to pick up another friend, who came bearing drinks and "The Dark Knight", which I hadn't seen. While they were hanging out, I went downstairs and did my end-of-the-month Hekate meditation and then my annual "what will this year bring?" tarot reading, which was totally goofy because I used a new deck and really hadn't shuffled enough, so *shrug*. Then we watched the movie, which was amazing. We had to pause at one point to watch the ball drop and that little split of champagne (which was in my Christmas package from my friend in North Carolina) was just right for the four of us to split for a toast. It was the nicest New Year's Eve I've spent in a while. I hope that's a good sign for the new year.

No resolutions, which normally don't last till my birthday. Instead, I set up a new set of goals for the year -- a "personal curriculum". I did this to various degrees the last couple of years and it works well for motivating me.
